About us:

Oromahoe 18R2B2B2 Trust is a Māori land trust farming sheep and beef in the Bay of Islands. The farm spans 1,050 ha, including 727 ha of effective grazing, with a mix of flat, rolling and hill country. Our operation includes finishing approximately 720 bulls annually, with around 720 weaners purchased each year and grown through to finishing weight, alongside a sheep breeding programme.

In 2024, the Trust was recognised as the Regional Supreme Winner at the Northland Ballance Farm Environment Awards, reflecting our commitment to productive farming, environmental stewardship and long-term care of the whenua.

We're a small team that takes pride in looking after our stock, land and infrastructure to a high standard. We value reliability, teamwork, common sense and a willingness to get stuck in.

About the role:

 We are looking for an experienced Shepherd/Farm Hand to join our team at Oromahoe. This is a hands-on role supporting the Farm Manager and team with the day-to-day operation of the farm.

You'll be involved in all aspects of the farming business, including stock work, fencing, pasture and infrastructure maintenance, machinery operation, and general farm duties.

This role suits someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and is keen to be part of a team committed to achieving good farming outcomes. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out the day-to-day operations of the farm under the direction of the Farm Manager.

• Mustering and moving livestock, and assisting with stock work including docking, shearing, crutching and weaning.

• Constructing and repairing fences, including electric, conventional and post and rail fencing.

• Operating farm vehicles, tractors and machinery, and keeping them clean and in good working order.

As the successful candidate, you will have:

• Well-trained farm working dogs

• Proven experience in sheep and beef farming

• Sound knowledge of farming best practice.

• Good communication skills.

• Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in all conditions.

• A current, clean driver's license.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
