Nau mai, hoki mai e te whānau
We hope you are all keeping well wherever you are across Aotearoa and beyond. It has been a while since our last pānui, and there has been plenty happening here at home in Oromahoe.
This update is a short one, as we are planning to share more detail with you all in person at an upcoming Special General Meeting. More on that soon.
Horticulture and land development
Over the past period, the Trust has continued progressing work around horticulture opportunities, including kiwifruit development. There has been a lot of planning, number crunching, discussions and walking the whenua as we work through what this could look like.
We are pleased with the direction things are heading, but rather than putting everything into writing, we want to take the time to properly walk you through it kanohi ki te kanohi.
This is an important kaupapa for the Trust and our future, so we encourage you to attend the SGM where we will share the full picture and answer any questions.
New tractor purchase
The farm has recently purchased a new tractor to support farm operations and keep things running as they should. This investment is about improving efficiency, reliability and ensuring the team has the right tools to continue delivering good outcomes on the whenua. It will also support the wider work programme as we look to diversify and develop.
That said, moments like this don’t come around often, and it’s clear the team has enjoyed it. A new bit of kit is always a lift for morale - and it’s good to have those lighter moments alongside the day-to-day mahi.

Café building update
Many of you will remember the condition of the café building at the saleyards site. We have now completed a roof replacement, addressing ongoing leaks and water damage that had been an issue for some time.
The building is now being made watertight and vermin proof and brought up to a standard where it can once again be fit for purpose. There is still more work to do, but completing the roof replacement is a significant step forward in protecting this asset and opening up future use options.

Water quality and environmental monitoring
We have now completed our second round of water quality testing at two stream sites on the whenua.
The aim is to build up a solid collection of data so we can track how water quality changes over time - across seasons and as restoration work is put in place.
This mahi is being carried out with ongoing support from the Northland Regional Council, who have been great to work alongside throughout the process.

On farm
Unfortunately, not all updates are positive.
We have had another number of sheep go missing from the farm. This has become an ongoing issue and is frustrating for the team on the ground.
We ask our haukāinga and neighbours to please keep an eye out for any suspicious activity, and to let us know if anything doesn’t look right.
As a result, additional security measures have been put in place around the farm.
Looking ahead
SGM – July (date to be confirmed)
AGM – October/November (date to be confirmed)
There is more happening across the Trust than what we have covered here. We strongly encourage whanau to attend the SGM, as this will be an opportunity to hear directly from Trustees, ask questions, and be part of the kōrero about the future direction of the Trust.
Ngā mihi nui
